Background
Three kids decided, with their parents, that they were going to protest the Vietnam War by wearing black arm bands to their school in Des Moines during the Christmas holiday. When the school figured out their intentions the principal asked them to remove the arm bands or to be suspendend. The 3 children were ask to remove their armband, so when they refused they were suspendend until after New Years.
